I've got a problem with ZoneAlarm (the free version). About 90% of the time I load up my computer, a program called VSMON ends up not responding. When I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to end it, my computer has a couple fatal exceptions and I'm forced to re-boot only to have the VSMON not respond again. What is VSMON? I did a search for it and it did come with ZoneAlarm. How do I prevent it from not responding when Windows 98 is loading?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I used to have the same problem with ZoneAlarm. When 2.6 came out and I upgraded to 2.6 it stopped. But when i did a small update to 2.6 as per ZoneAlarm's recomendation the same vsmon error started happening again.
Can't help you anymore because i now use Sygate 4.0 with no problems. But when Za comes out with another version, I probally will try again.

I also get the VSMON error message but it occurs when shutting down the computer. For some reason this VSMON error is a very common problem in Windows 98 yet Zone Labs has not fixed it.

From the START button (menu) click Run..., in the field, type msconfig, in the ensuing interface, click the "Startup" tab, then look for a reference to Vsmon and uncheck it if it's there.
Click OK and reboot.
Hope this helps.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago, when I formatted my harddisk and reinstalled all the software the problem was solved, I think that is has to do with some other programms installed that are interrupting the work of vsmon, which is a part of the zonealarm software

Isn't VSmon a part of the mcafee virusscanner? vsmon -> vshield monitor?

It can't be McAffee, because I have the same problem and I don't have that virus scanner installed.
