Kerio PF is the successor to Tiny PF: the developer went over to Kerio.
In my opinion Kerio is better suited for home use.
It is simpler to configure and it's functionality is enough.
And the documentation is good and thorough.
And it's free. Tiny PF is trialware for 30 days.
The latest Tiny PF has nice added functions as a sandbox and intrusion detection and good firewall, but figuring out to configure it manually is a nightmare at best.
The documentation won't get you anywhere - too abstract, incoherent, many errors. |

Sure you can use a firewall for dial-up -- essentially the firewall doesn't care how the network connections are made.
Some folks consider firewalling a dial-up connection to be overkill, since most will be of short duration and with a dynamic IP address, not a particularly inviting hacker target. But you're generally safer if you do use it, helps with identifying unauthorized outbound traffic if nothing else. |

You should have a firewall even with a dial-up.
Having a dynamic IP is irrelevant.
If you have a trojan waiting on your machine, when it senses you have an internet connection, it could notify the waiting attacker, giving your dynamic IP.
