Configure Tiny Personal Firewall 2

 

This firewall product tests results are : 13.25 / 20 !

After having installed Tiny Personnal Firewall , you can do the following :


How to configure it ?

1. Run the Tiny Personal Firewall FireWall administration module (through the systray in the task bar or the Windows start menu).

2. Click on the Advanced button .

In the Filter Rules Tabs , you will see previous made rules.

You may edit / modify them if you want by Add / Edit button :

3. In the Miscellaneaous tab, you can select where to log(normally no modifications needed) ,

Check "Is Running On An Internet Gateway", if you run Tiny Personnal Firewall on the gateway computer of your LAN (with proxy like Wingate for example ),

Use "Use Trustfull Addresses" to specify/ Add local IP addresses (for example : 192.168.1.0) that you really trust.If you are not sure, don't Add any, create your own rules.

4. Click on the Applications MD5 tab, you will see the application list that Tiny already detected. The MD5 key is (supposed) to be a binary count (checksum) of the content of the file to be sure no substitution / trojan takes place...

5. In the main window Miscellaneaous tab , you can select to protect your rules with a password, and your logs too :

6. You'll find in the log every connections attempts , applications operations (right clic on the TIny Personal Firewall in the systray and select Firewall status window, or select it from the Windows Start Menu) :

7. Normally that's all. If you don't want to be bothered (after you've made the correct rules in normal operations, select "Don't Bother me level". Don't do this unless you've made your rules this way : everything is denied unless you specified it. This means that your last rules must forbid everything and the other (previous rules) allow only specific services you really need.

If you have problems, don't forget to send the copy of your log and a short description of your configuration in your e-mail.
